PS5 : Sony provides update on compatible PS4 accessories and peripherals
What current PS4 peripherals and accessories will be compatible with the PS5? Sony is today answering this question through a FAQ published on the PlayStation Blog, including the news that the DualShock 4 controller will work on the new console, but only with “supported PS4 games”.
You won’t be able to use your good old DualShock 4 controller to enjoy Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Gran Turismo® 7, Horizon: We think PS5 games should take full advantage of the new capabilities and features we’re bringing to the platform, including the functionality of the DualSense wireless controller,” writes the manufacturer on the PS blog. The DualShock 4 controller and third-party PlayStation officially licensed and second-hand PlayStation controllers will still be available for use, but only with backwards compatible PS4 games.
Regarding virtual reality, Sony had already confirmed that the PS VR will be compatible with the PS5, so the current PlayStation Camera will work well on the console to play backwards compatible VR games. All that will be required is an adapter that will be “provided free of charge to all PS VR users” and the procedure for obtaining it will be specified later.
